Individual That Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Movie Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted across a fence and grabbed Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was handed a penalty to nine days in detention for being a public nuisance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the country's border control informed local media.
The man shoved past photographers and rushed toward the actress and singer, who was attending the regional launch for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of interrupting performances and celebrity events, including leaping onto the platform at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The event sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The celebrity has discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in the UK city in several years ago resulted in the deaths of over twenty people and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Event security stopped him and pinned him down.
Wen later posted videos appreciating the celebrity for permitting his access and said he was "released."
Law enforcement arrested him the next day and accused him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge the judicial official was quoted by a news outlet as saying that Wen was "attention seeking", commenting that he was wrong to assume he would not experience repercussions.
The singer has not spoken about the situation.
Cynthia Erivo discussed the situation to a media outlet, saying that she "just wanted to make sure my colleague was secure."
"I believe he didn't mean us danger, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I wanted to ensure that she was fine. That was my initial reaction," she said.
