The Details Known Regarding the Those Lost of the Bondi Shooting
A minimum of 16 individuals perished and over 40 were hurt when attackers fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian authorities are describing as a terrorist attack.
According to the most recent information, authorities have announced the number of fatalities remains at 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to hospital.
The victims are yet to be formally identified, but investigators think their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.
Described as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She told the events before the shooting, saying they had been standing together when the shooting started. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced immense hardship in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
The French authorities have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Officially, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was among those killed in the incident, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people taken to hospital, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with a number in a critical state. The injured include two police officers who attended the scene.
A wounded man is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Sources state he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
