Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Authorities Continue Hunt for Killer.

Both young individuals who died in the weekend's mass shooting in Providence were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer carried on following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences online, stating: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the prestigious university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a police operation at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and go in another, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”
